This course is being offered through the 'Students in Academic Programs' section of our website and is also open to all units with double-majoring in English.The English Department's goal is to introduce the subject of essay writing to a more diverse group of students. Essays on Social Issues provide a venue for students to share their personal viewpoints and experiences as well as challenges and triumphs from writing an essay. There is no better way to express oneself than by having an essay written about them.As a subject matter, Essays on Social Issues focuses on a variety of topics including the abortion controversy, gay marriage, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex issues, and feminism. Issues advocacy have recently been gaining popularity, so getting the class up to date is important.Most college students don't have the time to write a full-length essay. Student writers should take advantage of these classes and write short essays that are able to be re ad and discussed in class.This class is ideal for both the student who does not want to discuss politics at school and the student who wants to be politically correct. Students are encouraged to share their opinions on various issues, but they should do so in a manner that is not offensive to those who disagree with them.
